Homeland Security Recognizes C-stores as Essential Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Homeland Security released updated COVID-19 guidance identifying the essential critical infrastructure workforce during the ongoing national emergency. Among them: convenience stores.

Earlier this week, NACS sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security urging the agency to designate c-stores and their suppliers and distributors as critical businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its updated guidance, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recognizes key businesses as essential, including:

  • Retail fuel centers, such as gas stations and truck stops, and the distribution systems that support them
  • Retailers that sell food and beverage products
  • Restaurant carry-out and quick-serve food operations
  • Food manufacturer employees and their supplier employees
  • Employees and firms supporting food, feed and beverage distribution, including warehouse workers, vendor-managed inventory controllers and blockchain managers

We Did It!

Life has many challenges; some we are not prepared for.  After one of our own, David Turner, Lewis & Raulerson, Inc., President, survived emergency triple bypass surgery in 2019, it was a mission of many to live a healthier lifestyle and support his journey.   A team of 20 employees rallied together to tackle the Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation Bridge Run, which benefits the Health System cancer and cardiac care programs.

Unique among bridge runs, the event takes place entirely on the 7,780-foot long Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, Georgia. At its center, the bridge measures 480 feet high above the Brunswick River, the tallest span in the state. It is certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association as “the toughest 5K in Georgia”.  The challenge seemed daunting for many but feasible with the support and encouragement of our “work family” and many others on site.

The experience went better than all expected, minus the 20 MPH wind.  The team finished with exceptional time with one member, Emily Crosby receiving 1st place.  Big shout out to all that attended the event.

“Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.” – Amy Poehler

Feeding Families on Friday!!

We Did It!!  Over $200,000 raised for “Feeding Families on Friday”!

In addition to our Wonderful Charities we support each year, we also focus on the hunger crisis in our communities.

Friendly Express and Lewis and Raulerson have donated over $200,000 to local food banks, pantries and soup kitchens through their Feeding Families on Friday initiative. Every Friday when a customer buys ANY size fountain drink or coffee, we will donate 10 cent for each cup sold. 100% of the money collected has been distributed to Food Pantries in the same community as the store that collected it. In 2013 we decided to address a growing concern that affected all of our communities, and after speaking to all our employees we discovered the overwhelming need was to help feed people in our communities, hence Feeding Families on Friday was conceived. This program was designed not to be a short term fund raising effort but has become a way of life.
